TIM BARBER

Tim Barber, 29, grew up in Amherst Massachusetts, went to school in Vancouver B.C. and now lives in New York City. A photographer, curator, publisher and designer, Barber launched the independent publishing house TV Books (www.tvbookshop.com) in the spring of 2008, producing unique books, artists monographs, zines and posters. Barber also runs the online gallery www.tinyvices.com, where visitors are encouraged to submit their photographs and artwork and he is currently curating a series of five photography books to be published by the Aperture Foundation in the fall of 2008.

(Toronto, Ontario – August 12th, 2008) - Studio Gallery and Aritzia are proud to present the book launch and art exhibition of Tim Barber’s TV Books from August 20th to September 17th. A former photo editor of Vice Magazine and co-curator of the 2008 New York Photo Festival (NYPF), Barber is an established photographer, curator, publisher and designer. His newest venture is TV Books ( www.tvbookshop.com), an independent publishing house based on his popular online art gallery Tiny Vices (www.tinyvices.com). Tiny Vices has featured innovative work by artists like Richard Kern, Dash Snow, Peter Sutherland, Ryan McGinley, Aurel Schmidt, Dan Colen, and Patrick O’Dell. With the introduction of TV Books however, Barber's domain has moved beyond the desktop to the coffee table. The launch of TV Books features limited-edition books, artist monographs, posters, and artwork by Tiny Vices artists Aurel Schmidt, Ben Schumacher, Julia Burlingham, Chris Dorland, Mark DeLong, Jason Nocito, Gordon Hull, Kim Krans, Jason Mathew Lee, Michael Schmelling, Patrick Griffin, Gary Lachance, Chris Noble, Mike Comeau, and Tim Barber himself.

Studio Gallery is a Toronto-based gallery interested in exploring the convergence of contemporary art, design, fashion, music and the Internet. Opened in 2008, Studio Gallery is a new venture by Studio Inc., a Toronto-based design and interactive agency. Past featured artists at Studio Gallery include So Me, Michel Gondry, Phil Frost, Swoon, Patrick O’Dell, Peter Sutherland, and Team Macho to name a few. Founded by Avery Hunsberger, Studio maintains clients like Peter Gatien’s CiRCA, Hariri Pontarini Architects, Pam Chorley’s Fashion Crimes, Adidas ACG, Calvin Klein, Honda and Family Guy among many others.
